America has led the world in its march toward greater freedom and democracy, not by the might of its military, but by the power of its ideas and ideals. America's true greatness shines even more brightly in the marketplace of ideas than in the commercial marketplace or on the battlefield.

By recognizing the People as the legitimate source of power and the government as the protector, not the grantor, of rights the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights strike a chord with people in every country who long for or value their freedom.

Only by a continued commitment to these ideas and ideals at home as well as in our relations with other peoples and other nations can America continue to truly lead the world.

that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights...
